Description

One of our best sellers, this bean is picked and dried with the fruit still attached, which enhances its complexity and wild fruity flavors. The body is quite rich and smooth for a dark roast. The acidity is very low, and the finish is strong and smooth with chocolate tones and hints of syrup and vanilla.

Among the archipelago nation of Indonesia lies its hidden Jewel, the island of Bali. The eruption of the Gunung Agung Volcano in 1963 caused a delay in the progress of modern-day coffee cultivation on Bali. In response to this situation, the government enacted programs in the 1970’s and 1980’s to help rejuvenate coffee production. With the distribution of coffee seedlings to local farmers, an island wide coffee growing campaign began. Today, the coffee growing area in Bali is an estimated 7,500 hectares. The Kintamani highlands, where most coffee is grown, sits atop a large volcanic plateau between 1300-1700 meters altitude. Coffee tree varieties include a high percentage of Bourbon and Typica, along with shade trees such as Erythrina, Albizia, Tangerine and Orange. The use of pesticides is prohibited on Bali and all fertilizers are 100% organic. The Subak Abian is a traditional farming structure organization in Bali, similar to a farmer cooperative. There are 13 different Subak Abians that are currently growing and processing coffee. The "SA" oversee both agricultural technology and religious activities. The promotion of improved coffee growing practices is expected to enhance not only agricultural technology but social and economic standing in Bali as well.

Too oily for my self grind capers so- find I must be constantly stirring to allow beans to pass thru grinder.

{Roasters Note - This coffee is roasted to an Italian roast and is somewhat oily. Darker roast coffees exhibit more oils and generally do not work well with the super-automatic machines (brewers with the grinder built in). We recommend lighter or medium roasts to avoid this issue. For a darker roast that has proven to work well with these types of machines, try our Old World Espresso!}

This is great coffee!
We were sold on this great tasting coffee after picking up a couple of pounds at the Saturday Morning Market in St Pete. It's convenient to be able to also order online when we can't make it to the Market. Free shipping on large orders is nice, but the main selling points for us are Taste, Organic and Local.

This is the best coffee I’ve ever bought. Rich and dark and smooth, not bitter. Amazing.

Perfect
Got a free sample of this with a bag of beans I ordered. So glad I did, it was wonderful. It’s similar to St Pete’s Dark Secret.
